Set aside if you want a week from Athens through northern Greece with a private driver. The route combines Meteora with Delphi and continues to Kastoria and Thessaloniki.

Choose this if Meteora is one stop on a longer trip through northern Greece. You travel from Athens with a private car and an English-speaking driver for 168 hours. Prices start at €1438.24 per person.

Delphi and Arachova come before Meteora's sunset circuit around the rocks. The route continues through Metsovo and Kastoria to Vergina and Thessaloniki. A cheese tasting in Metsovo and a Thessaloniki city and food tour are included. Thermopylae comes on the return to Athens.

Six nights in three-star or boutique hotels and breakfast are included. Hotel city tax is extra. Entry at Delphi and Vergina costs extra. Agree the monastery entries before booking.

  1. Leave your accommodation in Athens.
  2. Visit Delphi's site and museum, about two hours.
  3. Stop in Arachova, about one hour.
  4. Continue to Kalabaka and Meteora, about three hours.
  5. See Great Meteoron and the rocks, about two hours.
  6. Taste cheeses in Metsovo, about one hour.
  7. Explore Kastoria, about two hours.
  8. Spend about four hours in Kastoria or on a Nymfaio outing with truffle hunting and lunch.
  9. Stay overnight in Kastoria.
  10. Pass the Pozar Thermal Baths.
  11. Visit the tombs and museum at Vergina, about two hours.
  12. Arrive at your hotel in Thessaloniki.
  13. Take the city and food tour in Thessaloniki, about four hours.
  14. Spend the afternoon and evening in Thessaloniki.
  15. See the Leonidas monument at Thermopylae, about 30 minutes.
  16. Visit the museum at Thermopylae.
  17. Return to your Athens hotel, about six hours for the whole return via Thermopylae.
