The review bar
The bar is 4.5 out of 5 from 10 or more reviews. Both the rating and review count combine Viator and Tripadvisor reviews as published by Viator. A product's rating covers all its options together. It gives no separate score for the option we compare.
The editor numbers main choices by how well they fit the selection's question. Alternatives follow. An alternative may fall below the bar if it is the only tour of its kind. We flag that exception with its rating and review count.
Which tours belong on a selection
A selection compares plans for a visit. It is not a ranking of operators. Tours belong together when they answer the same practical question. Your starting point and priorities shape the choice.
For an Athens trip we check where the chosen option starts. A title mentioning Athens does not establish that a transfer is included. The option determines whether travel from Athens is part of the booking. That changes what you need to arrange yourself.
At the saved snapshot Viator lists 98 products for Meteora. We saved and read 65 listings in full. Our 8 published selections compare 42 tours.
Read the exact option
We start with the rating and review count. Next we read what the exact option contains. These are the details we compare before reading the reviews themselves.
| What we read | What the page must tell you |
|---|---|
| Monasteries inside | Which monasteries the option enters and how many minutes it allows at each. A photo stop is separate from a visit inside. |
| Entrance fees | What the booking pays for. Entrance costs €5 per adult at each monastery door in cash. We treat fees as extra unless the option includes them. |
| Price | The price for the option being compared. A cheaper headline price for a different option does not belong beside this plan. |
| The day | The route and total duration. We read the itinerary for stops and minutes at each place. Time on the road matters too. |
| Group and pickup | The group limit and start point. We check the exact option's pickup arrangements. The page tells you where your booked day begins. |
| Closing days | The weekday closures that affect the route. We describe a swap to an open monastery only for options that provide for it. |
We read option descriptions alongside inclusions and exclusions. The itinerary supplies stops and minutes. Finally we read the listing's reviews for travellers' accounts of the day. We never quote or paraphrase them on the page.
We leave out the cheapest headline price when it buys another option. The booking button opens the product on Viator. Choose the option named beside our price when you book there.
What decides selection and order
We compare monasteries entered first. Then we compare route and duration. Group size and pickup come next with cost. Each card shows the review count. The pages are not sorted by it.
The main choices come first in order of fit. The start time matters too. Alternatives offer a different day, such as a photography walk or a private car. Choose a tour if its visits and timing fit your plan. Look elsewhere if it skips the monastery you want to enter.
We earn a commission from bookings through our buttons at no extra cost to you. Commission rates and promotional labels change neither selection nor order. We neither sell nor run tours.
We compare the operators' descriptions and figures. We have not taken every tour. Going on your own is a good outcome if a tour adds little to your plan. Allow for your own transport and cash at the monastery doors.
